Senior Assistant Accountant
Rotherham | Permanent

Elevation Recruitment Group is working with a growing business in the Rotherham area to recruit a Senior Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting the Financial Controller across day-to-day accounts, project costing, cash flow and month-end reporting. It offers a great opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to take ownership of their workload and become a key part of the finance team.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage purchase ledger and sales ledger activities, including invoice processing, coding and raising sales invoices.
• Prepare supplier payment runs, reconcile statements and manage credit control.
• Process expenses and company credit card transactions.
• Complete bank reconciliations and support cash flow reporting.
• Prepare journals and assist with month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations using Sage 50.
• Support project costing and work in progress reviews.
• Prepare VAT returns and monthly CIS returns for review.
• Process weekly payroll and allocate costs to projects.
• Liaise with project managers and site teams regarding finance queries.
• Support improvements to finance processes, controls and reporting.

About You

• Previous experience in a busy accounts or finance role, ideally covering both purchase and sales ledger.
• Good working knowledge of Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience in credit control, reconciliations and month-end processes.
• Previous experience processing weekly payroll.
• Good understanding of VAT, with CIS knowledge advantageous.
• AAT qualified or equivalent practical accounting experience.
• Strong attention to detail, organisation and communication skills.

Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing or a project-based business would be beneficial.
