Attercliffe sits in Sheffield's Lower Don Valley, on the south bank of the River Don and a couple of miles east of the city centre. It was the heart of the city's heavy steel and engineering trade, and that base still shows in the local job market: vacancies lean towards manufacturing, steel processing, logistics and warehouse work, with a layer of sport, leisure and retail jobs added more recently.

Steel remains the anchor. Sheffield Forgemasters works from the River Don Works on Brightside Lane and is expanding onto the former Cammell Laird Brightside Steel Works at Weedon Street, where a new machine shop and forging line are being built as part of a recapitalisation programme aimed at defence and energy work. A short distance away, Marcegaglia runs the stainless steel meltshop it bought from Outokumpu in 2023, with an electric arc furnace upgrade under way. Alongside the heavy industry, the Olympic Legacy Park off Coleridge Road (S9 5DA) brings sport, health and education jobs through the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, iceSheffield, Sheffield Hallam's Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre and UTC Sheffield. Up the valley, Meadowhall is one of South Yorkshire's largest retail and hospitality employers, and the Valley Centertainment complex (Cineworld, Hollywood Bowl and the rest) adds shift and seasonal leisure work.

Many of the industrial and warehouse roles come through agencies rather than direct adverts, so registering with local recruiters alongside applying online is worth doing. On transport, the Attercliffe Supertram stop is on the line into the city centre and out to Meadowhall, and the M1 at Junction 34 is roughly two miles east at Tinsley for the logistics sites. Sheffield station runs East Midlands Railway services to London St Pancras in around two hours via Chesterfield, Derby and Leicester. The whole district is S9, which also covers Brightside, Darnall, Tinsley and Meadowhall.
